ABSTRACT

With the use of integrated nutrient management, cauliflower the growth and yield can be boosted. Due to their complementing effects, the ideal combination of different organic and inorganic sources of nutrients may significantly boost cauliflower growth and yield. The experiment consisted of 13 treatments viz. T1= N120P60K100S20 kg/ha (Recommended dose of NPKS as control), T2= N120P60K100S20 kg/ha + CD (5 t/ha), T3= N120P60K100S20 kg/ha + VC (4 t/ha), T4= N120P60K100S20 kg/ha + MSC (4 t/ha), T5= N120P60K100S20B0.6Mo0.54 kg/ha + CD (5 t/ha), T6= N120P60K100S20B0.6Mo0.54 kg/ha + VC (4 t/ha), T7= N120P60K100S20B0.6Mo0.54 kg/ha + MSC (4 t/ha), T8= N120P60K100S20 kg/ha + CD (5 t/ha) + Bio. (5 kg/ha), T9= N120P60K100S20 kg/ha + VC (4 t/ha) + Bio. (5 kg/ha), T10= N120P60K100S20 kg/ha + MSC (4 t/ha) + Bio. (5 kg/ha), T11= N120P60K100S20B0.6Mo0.54 kg/ha + CD (5 t/ha) + Bio. (5 kg/ha), T12= N120P60K100S20B0.6Mo0.54 kg/ha + VC (4 t/ha) + Bio. (5 kg/ha) and T13= N120P60K100S20B0.6Mo0.54 kg/ha + MSC (4 t/ha) + Bio. (5 kg/ha). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) having single factor with three replications. Data were recorded on growth, yield components of cauliflower and significant variation was observed for most of the studied characters. Under this investigation, it was revealed that the highest yield (36.34 t/ha) with net return (Tk. 524202) and BCR (3.59) was obtained from T12 (N120P60K100S20B0.6Mo0.54 kg/ha + VC (4 t/ha) + Bio. (5 kg/ha) treatment. On the other hand, the lowest yield (13.50 t/ha) with net return (Tk. 137869) and BCR (2.04) was obtained from T1 (N120P60K100S20 kg/ha) treatment. So, economic analysis revealed that T12 (N120P60K100S20B0.6Mo0.54 kg/ha + VC (4 t/ha) + Bio-fertilizer (5 kg/ha) treatment appeared to be the best for achieving the higher growth, yield and economic benefit of cauliflower.

ABSTRACT

Background: The present study was carried out for the isolation, identification of Salmonella and Escherichia coli from broiler meat samples (leg muscle, breast muscle and drumstick) which were collected from different upazilla markets of Mymensingh, Gazipur, and Sherpur districts during the period of January 2015 to May 2015. Methods: A total of 60 samples were subjected to bacterial isolation and identification by using cultural, biochemical, and polymerase chain reaction assays. Results: Using standard bacteriological techniques E. coli was isolated from 50 (83.33%) samples and Salmonella spp. from 18 (31.66%) samples. Furthermore, the isolates were subjected to antibiogram studies by disk diffusion method using eight commonly used antibiotics. Antibiogram studies revealed that gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, and norfloxacin were highly sensitive against all the isolated bacteria, whereas most of the isolates were resistant to amoxicillin, erythromycin, and tetracycline. Out of all the isolates, 5 isolates of E. coli and 3 isolates of Salmonella were found multidrug resistant. Conclusions: The study revealed the presence of multidrug resistant Salmonella and E. coli in broiler meat sold in live bird market of different upazilla.

ABSTRACT

Background: Acute coronary syndrome is a cardiac emergency. It is increasingly common in younger peoples. Management of elderly peoples is difficult due to their associated comorbidity. This study tried to compare the in-hospital outcome of the younger and older patients with acute coronary syndrome. Methods: The study was a comparative cross sectional study. Clinical and biochemical evaluation was done in hospital settings. A total number of 120 patients were included in the study and divided into two groups according to distribution of age. In group I there were elderly groups of aged >60 yrs. and in group II there were patients within the age 40 to 60 yrs. All the data were collected systematically in a preformed data collection form. Results: Group I populations had more in hospital stay and more complications than group II. Conclusion: The study revealed significant association with age and outcome of Acute coronary syndrome patients. Complications of acute coronary syndrome increase as the age of the patients increases.

ABSTRACT

Background: In epidemiological studies and clinical trials renal function has been shown to be an independent predictor of coronary artery disease (CAD). We conducted this study to find out the association between creatinine clearance rate (CCr) and coronary angiographic severity in patients with (CAD). Method: It was a cross sectional study carried out in the department of Cardiology, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka during the period of April, 2011 to March, 2012. All the patients with Ischaemic heart disease (IHD) admitted in the department of Cardiology who fulfill the inclusion and exclusion criteria and underwent coronary angiogram were taken as sampling population. Sampling technique was purposive and sample size was 118. By Cockcroft-Gault formula, CCr was estimated from serum creatinine. Coronary angiographic severity of coronary artery disease was assessed by vessel score and stenosis score. Statistical analysis was carried out by descriptive statistics, correlation coefficient test and one way ANOVA test. Level of significance was set at 0.05. Results: Mean CCr among study subjects was 72.57 ± 17.78 ml/min. Vessel score showed 18.6% had normal coronaries, 37.3% single vessel disease, 31.4% double vessel disease and 12.7% triple vessel disease. There was significant positive relationship between serum creatinine and vessel score, and also negative relationship between CCr and vessel score. The study also showed significant negative correlation between CCr and stenosis score. Conclusion: Angiographic severity of coronary artery disease is associated with degree of renal dysfunction. Decreased creatinine clearance is associated with more extensive CAD.

ABSTRACT

Endoscopic sinus surgery has become a widely accepted surgical procedure for the treatment of chronic inflammatory sinus diseases. In our study 100 patients were suffering from polyposis treated by functional endoscopic sinus surgery in MMCH. Out of 100 patients 53 patients were suffering from ethmoidal polyp and 47 patients were suffering from antrochoanal polyp between the ages 7 to 45 years. Among antrochoanal polyp 2 patients were found with inverted papilloma and came with recurrence. 40% of the patients came with a follow up visit up to 1 year. 7 out of 53 cases of ethmoidal patient came with recurrence requiring revision FESS. There was no history of patient suffering from asthma or aspirin intolerance. Overall success rate was observed in 91%. Four patients were found with periorbital haematoma and 5 with fat coming out from orbit due to injury of lamina papyraceae.

ABSTRACT

Subcutaneous administration of RMI 12,936 at a dose level of 2 mg/rat on day 5 of unilaterally pregnant rat having trauma-induced decidual cell reaction (DCR) in the contralateral uterine horn, suppresses DCR, induces resorption of implanted embryos and leads to decrease in the plasma level of progesterone. Progesterone replacement (D 5-8) in this situation reverses DCR suppressive effect of RMI 12,936 but fails to prevent resorption of implanted embryos. It is concluded that possibly the drug simultaneously exerts embryotoxic as well as luteolytic effects, but these effects are independent.

ABSTRACT

Effect of vitamin A deficiency and of subsequent vitamin A supplementation on the serum levels of immunoglobulins, IgG, IgA, and IgM were studied in children with severe to moderate vitamin A, deficiency. Decreased levels of IgG [P < 0.001], IgA [P < 0.01] and increased levels of serum IgM [P < 0.01] were found in vitamin A deficient children, compared to normal On supplementation of 100,000-200,000 i.u. of vitamin A. during a period of 2 weeks, serum lgG, IgA and IgM levels in the vitamin A deficient children increased by 49.4 +/- 7.2%, 14.2 + 7.7%, and 8.1 + 2.3% respectively with an increase in the serum vitamin A levels by 47.6 + 10.6 per cent. The result have been discussed on the possible interations of vitamin A, deficiency and immunity
